Hound Tor bouldering trip, June 2023

Trip venue, date and time

Hound Tor, Sunday 4th June, 10am-4pm

The crag and the approach

Hound Tor is a very scenic crag with lots of legend and lore associated with it (think Hound of the Baskervilles!). The rock type is granite, grippy but bites back. The approach takes roughly 10 minutes from the car park, mostly even moorland that gets more uneven as you get closer to the crag.

What we’ll be doing

Bouldering! This will be our first outdoor trip with a sole bouldering purpose. Bouldering is climbing without a rope, usually not higher than 6m. Usually be use portable crash mats to absorb some of the impact of a fall. No previous climbing experience needed, just at least a provisional club membership.

Maximum capacity of 12 new boulderers. Please do not sign up if you are a self-sufficient boulderer as this is geared more towards those who are unfamiliar with bouldering, you are still welcome and encouraged to attend but as an independent boulderer who isn’t under supervision.

If you have your own mat and want to boulder independently, there’s no need to book. If you will be using the club-supplied mats or need advice or guidance from the club, please book a place.

Roped climbers are welcome, but this won’t be an official club activity for the day. This means you will take decisions about your own ability and risk. We recommend you have paid club membership if you plan to do this, so that you have insurance.
